NetBIOS Info - Basic Tool Description

This tool is designed to access resources such as network drives or printers shared by Windows through the NetBIOS protocol. This tool can help you identify the shares that are vulnerable to unauthorized access including 'writable share' access commonly used for propagation by worms.

The screenshot shows the shares on the local network including hidden shares and disk drive paths (if NetScanTools Pro is used on a Windows 2003/XP/2000 machine). We have also include the ability to test those shares to see if they are writable or 'open shares' which would indicate a vulnerability to worms and other malware. Open shares are marked in RED. The lower window in the screenshot shows details about the systems that are sharing information on the network including MAC (Media Access Control) address, IP address, system type (ie. Windows NT 4 Server, XP, 2003 etc.), network browser status (ie. master, backup, potential browser) and other ethernet related information.
