Detailed Software Operational Requirements
Everything you need to know about running
NetScanTools Pro.
Required Operating System
This is a 32 bit program designed for use on 32 or 64
bit Windows
7, Vista, XP SP3, Server 2008, or Server 2003. The program can
be run from a non-administrator
privileges account if you allow the startup of WinPcap at boot
-- the WinPcap installer asks for permission to do this. The USB Version requires Administrator Privileges and
you must invoke "Run as administrator"
to use on Windows 7 or Vista.
Apple MAC OS - we have
several users to run this program from within Windows 7 running
on VMWare Fusion or Parallels virtual machines.
When using NetScanTools Pro
on...
Windows 7:
Your version must be 10.81
or newer.
Windows Vista/2008 Server:
Your version must be 10.42
or newer.
Support for Windows 2000 ended with 10.98.2. Version 11 does not
support Windows 2000.
NetScanTools Pro 11 does not run on Windows Windows
2000, NT4 SP6a, NT3.5x, ME,
98 or 95.
Video Display Resolution (minimum)
We recommend 1024x768. Currently requires 32 bit
color depth - 16 bit and lower are not supported.
Network Connection
NetScanTools Pro requires a TCP/IP network connection
with access to a DNS. We recommend a wired connection such as ethernet.
Many parts of the program will run through a wireless connection, however the
portions of the program heavily dependent on WinPcap may not run
properly through the wireless interface or a cellular modem connection
especially if the tool is sending packets through the interface. For best results, do
not use it behind a firewall unless you can configure the firewall
to pass the packet types we use (ICMP, TCP/UDP, ARP). Personal firewalls
and some antivirus scanners that check incoming and outgoing email
will cause false positive reporting when using port scanner due
to the way they operate. We use the
WinPcap packet driver for some
features. WinPcap goes around many personal firewalls including the
Windows firewall and allows us to talk directly with network
interface. Installation of the WinPcap driver is required.
Computer Speed (minimum)
We recommend at least a 1Ghz machine.
Hard Disk Space
NetScanTools Pro requires 50 Mbytes minimum of
hard disk space. The USB version is supplied on a 8GB USB drive
and requires no hard disk space.
Mandatory Product Registration
Registration is required after program installation to activate
the
Maintenance Plan.
